Pope: Mideast peace is possible, it is urgent

City of the Vatican City (PA) - Pope Benedict XVI says in the Middle East peace is possible, it is urgent and the best way to stop the migration of people from the region.

Benedict also told religious freedom in the Middle East should be expanded - a problem which could be the subject of a dialogue between Christians and Muslims.

Beno?t celebrated mass in St. Peter Sunday to mark the end of a meeting of two weeks of bishops Mideast, called to discuss the fate of the Christians in the Middle East.

The exodus of the faithful of the birthplace of Christianity was a major theme of the Synod.

The Catholic Church has since long a minority Muslim region largely, but its presence is declining in addition to a suite of conflict, discrimination and economic problems.
