A Catholic response reflected the Darwinism

In the middle of much confusion among Catholics on the evolution, I am very happy to see an excellent piece by Bishop Charles Pope on the website of the Archdiocese of Washington DC.

Bishop Pape saw clearly the fundamental incompatibility between the standard, the Neo-Darwinian biological evolutionary theory and Catholic theology.According to Neo-Darwinism Adaptive complexity of life is the result of natural selection and random mutations génétiques.Compte view of this definition, Bishop Pape argues is that while many aspects of "evolution" can not be problematic, "a critique of the theory of evolution and easy acceptance is an untenable Catholic."

Joe Carter highlights exhibit at First Things.

As expected, the two pieces have attracted dozens of comments, good and some not so well. Among the not-so-good is the common assertion that Neo-Darwinism randomly, simply means "no" and did not otherwise metaphysical particular importance. This claim is also common, as trompeur.Que we support in God and evolution, can always just clarify and be definition private word in his head that differs from how it is used by the community concerned. And there is obviously a difference between something being simply a level physics uncorrelated and not directed at the theological level. But this qualify the word "random" little clarifies things.

Even acquaintance occasional with dominant biology manual (and the writings of Darwin) reveals that in such contexts, the word "random" is almost always heard unnecessary and undirected. In his chapter in God and evolution, Casey Luskin provides numerous examples.Darwin was absolutely insistent on this point and resisted any interpretation of his theory that God might be directing things behind the scenes.Neo-Darwinists have generally followed by Darwin in this sujet.Ils have the right to define their theory .c ' their theory, after tout.Il is misleading Catholic and other theists insist on some other private definition of a Word, then declare theism and Neo-Darwinism are compatibles.Il would be nice to pretend there is no conflict here between Darwin's theory and Catholic theology, but clearly there.
