PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Pennsylvania’s Republican candidates for governor and U.S. Senate will board an airplane to greet supporters around the state while first lady Michelle Obama and former President Bill Clinton will drop in to help Democrats on the last day before the election.
Events are scheduled in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Allentown and elsewhere Monday. The election is Tuesday.
Voters will decide successors to Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell and five-term Democratic U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter. Some of Pennsylvania’s 19 congressional seats also are closely contested.
With Democrats in control of the governor’s office, Congress and the presidency, the party’s candidates are trying to counter a wave of voter discontent over joblessness and the economy.
